Privacy Policy

Social Lyfe (“Social Lyfe,” “we,” “us”) helps adults find compatible friends nearby and meet up in real life. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email [email protected].
Who can use Social Lyfe
Social Lyfe is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn an account belongs to a minor, we remove it.
Information we collect
- Account & profile.Your email, password (stored only as a salted hash — never in plain text), and the profile details you choose to add: name, age, photos, interests, languages, what you’re looking for, prompts, occupation, and general availability.
- Phone number. Required to create an account and verified by SMS code. It is used to keep the community real (one account per number) and to let you recover your account. Your phone number is never shown to other users and never included in any profile others can see.
- Verification. If you choose selfie verification, a live-selfie check confirms a real person is behind the profile. We store only whether you passed and when — not the verification video.
- Approximate location. If you enable it, we use your device location to sort people and plans by distance. We snap coordinates to a coarse grid before storing them, and other users only ever see a bucketed distance (for example, “1–3 mi”) — never your neighborhood, address, or exact position.
- Activity on the app.Connections, messages, activities you host or join, crews, confirmed meetups, and the private “would hang again” signals you give (these are never shown to the person they’re about).
- Device & technical data. A push notification token (if you allow notifications), and basic technical information such as IP address and app version, used for security and to make the service work.
How we use your information
- To match you with compatible people and plans nearby.
- To operate core features: connections, messages, activities, crews, and meetup confirmations.
- To verify you're a real adult and enforce one account per person.
- To send you notifications you've opted into (you can turn any category off in Settings).
- To keep the community safe — reviewing reports, enforcing blocks, and removing abuse.
- To provide sl+ features to subscribers and process those subscriptions.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising.
What other people can see
Other members see the profile you build and, when relevant, a bucketed distance. They never see your email, phone number, exact location, or the private ratings you give. Plans are never public — only your connections or your crew can see them. You control whether you appear in discovery at all, and you can block anyone, which makes you and them invisible to each other everywhere, instantly.
Service providers we share with
We share limited data with vendors who process it only to provide the service:
- Twilio — sends your SMS verification codes (receives your phone number).
- Amazon Web Services — powers the optional live-selfie verification check.
- Cloudflare — stores your profile photos and delivers the service.
- RevenueCat & the app stores — process sl+ subscriptions. We never receive your full card details.
- Expo — delivers push notifications to your device.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our members or the public.
Photos and metadata
When you upload a photo we re-process it on our servers, which strips embedded metadata such as GPS location before storage. Photos are stored under random, unguessable filenames and are only shared with people allowed to see your profile. When you replace or remove a photo, we delete the old one.
How long we keep your data
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, connections, messages, plans, and photos. Some records may persist briefly in backups or where we’re required to retain them (for example, to comply with the law or resolve a safety report).
Your choices and rights
- Edit or remove most profile details anytime in the app.
- Turn off any notification category, or hide yourself from discovery, in Settings.
- Delete your account permanently from Settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data — email us and we'll help.
Security
We protect your account with hashed passwords, encrypted connections, verified phone-based recovery, and server-side controls that keep your exact location and contact details private. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep yours safe and to fix issues quickly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make a material change, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
